WAS ?MARY JANE?S LAST DANCE? TO ?DANI CALIFORNIA??
Though the Red Hot Chili Peppers are riding high with their very successful album, Stadium Arcadium, there are many people saying that the hit single off of it, ?Dani California,? sounds an awful lot like a Tom Petty tune. Apparently, there are similarities between the R-H-C-P single and ?Mary Jane?s Last Dance.? The New York Post reports that one source told them, ?The song has the same chord progression, melody and tempo of Petty?s ?Mary Jane?s Last Dance.? The song even has a similar lyrical theme.? There is no word yet of any lawsuit, but if Tom sues, it could become a very big headache for his label, Warner Bros. The issue is that both the Chili Peppers and Petty are on Warner Bros. and a lawsuit would mean that Stadium Arcadium, Warner?s biggest hit this year, would need to be pulled from the shelves. Petty?s rep said, ?I am well aware of this situation. [The two songs] certainly do sound similar, don?t they? I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Tom doesn?t have a comment on this at all. I have no idea if he is going to sue the Chili Peppers, and am not prepared to make a comment on that.?
GREEN DAY REFUSE TO BE BORING ON NEXT ALBUM
Green Day announced last week that they were working on some cool projects, which was vague to say the least, but it looks like they are working towards a new album. In an interview with MTV News, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said, ?Everything we do is contributing to something that we?re going to put out. We don?t have a solid idea yet, it?s just the beginning, but the beginning ideas that we have are really exciting.? He went on to say that this next album would hardly be a low-key affair, saying, ?Just be certain that it is going to be an event, not just putting a record out. At this point to put out a record with like 12 songs on it and turn it in sounds a bit boring for us.?
PEARL JAM TAPES 'STORYTELLERS' EPISODE
Pearl Jam taped an episode of VH1's Storytellers on Wednesday night (May 31st) at a small club in New York City, according to a press release. VH1 Storytellers: Pearl Jam will premiere on VH1 on Saturday, July 1st at 9 p.m.
- Pearl Jam performed at the Avalon once before, in 1992, when it was known as the Limelight and the band was just beginning to take off.
- The group's self-titled eighth studio album currently sits at Number 17 on the Billboard Top 200, having sold 461,000 copies since its May 2nd release.
- The group plays the second of two shows in East Rutherford, New Jersey tomorrow night (Saturday, June 3rd) as it continues its North American tour.
BLACK CROWES TO RELEASE 'LOST' ALBUMS
The Black Crowes have gone into their vault and will release two "lost" albums in a single package on August 29th as The Lost Crowes. The first CD contains a record they made in Los Angeles in 1993 called Tall, which is a jazz expression related to drug use. It has 16 unreleased tracks, seven of which later made it onto 1994's amorica after further development. Disc Two has Band, which the Crowes recorded in Nashville in 1997. It has 10 songs, including one that eventually was reworked into the title track from their 1999 album By Your Side. Also on August 29th, the Crowes will release their 1992 home video Who Killed That Bird Out On Your Window Sill on DVD in an expanded edition.
THE BREAK-UP
A dinner party gone wrong leads to the break-up of longtime couple Brooke and Gary. Problem is, they co-own a valuable Chicago condo that neither of them wants to part with. They pull out every trick in the book to drive the other away and are too stubborn to admit that they both want to give their relationship another chance.
