PEARL JAM STORYTELLERS
Saturday, Vh1Storytellers: Pearl Jam will premiere on Vh1. The band performs new songs from their latest self-titled album in addition to past hits. The show will include questions from fans as well as a new interview with the band.

BECK GOES HIP-HOP ON NEW ALBUM?
Beck has almost finished his follow-up to 2005?s Guero, and he recently gave MTV News an update on the new album. He said that the record is all mastered, and the artwork is almost finished. Beck worked with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich on the project that has a hip-hop feel saying, "Before we started, Nigel said he wanted to do a hip-hop record. And in a way it is, and in a way it isn't. It has hip-hop songs, and my previous work with him was Mutations and Seachange, these sort of introspective records, and so this new one is sort of bringing those two worlds together." The record is as-yet-untitled, but should be out by the fall.

TOOL PLAYS SOUTH KOREA FOR FIRST TIME
Tool will make its first ever appearance in South Korea when the band plays in the capital city of Seoul on August 15th as direct support for Metallica, according to Blabbermouth.net. The show will also mark Metallica's first concert in the country since April of 1998, with more support acts expected to be announced soon. The show comes after Tool plays three early August dates in California but before it begins the main portion of its next North American tour in Hawaii on August 18th. Metallica is spending the summer playing festivals in Europe and Asia before heading back into the studio to resume work on its next studio effort.

LOSTPROPHETS RELEASE CD TODAY
The third album from Welsh act Lostprophets, titled Liberation Transmission, comes out today (Tuesday, June 27th) and finds the former rap-metal act taking a turn in a more pop-rock direction. Lead singer Ian Watkins told LAUNCH that the new wrinkle in the band's sound has really been there all along. "We always had elements of this on our first record. It's not that different. It's, like, basically, just one element has come more to the forefront and one element has pushed more towards the back. When we first started, it was more angsty, more riffy, more thrashy, but with hints of pop, you know. And as we've gone along, the metal has gone towards the back and the pop sensibilities have come forward a lot."

WORK PROGRESSING ON OFFSPRING ALBUM
The Offspring has started work on its eighth studio album, according to a posting by lead singer Dexter Holland at the band's official website. Holland wrote, in part, "We're working on songs (we're probably a little over halfway), and meeting with some awesome record producers. I would tell you who they are, but I'm not sure that I could trust all of you to keep it a secret. So we'll just have to leave it to your imaginations...I think we'll be recording the new record in a couple months." The Offspring's last collection of all-new material, Splinter, came out in 2003. The group issued a greatest hits collection in June of last year. Drummer Atom Willard is currently on tour with Angels And Airwaves.

ROWLING KILLING OFF TWO POTTER CHARACTERS
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is killing off at least two characters in her seventh and final installment of the successful book franchise. Rowling isn't revealing who the unlucky characters will be, but she said in a TV interview yesterday (June 26th) that "One character got a reprieve, but I have to say two die that I didn't intend to die."

Rowling didn't say if it's Harry Potter who gets the ax, but she admitted that she understands why writers end the lives of beloved characters. That way, she said, other authors can't integrate them into their own sequels.

Rowling is in the midst of writing the seventh Harry Potter book, and she says she's known how the series would end since 1990. She wrote the last chapter before the first book was even published and it's now stored in a safe. She told Britain's Channel 4, "The final chapter is hidden away, although it's now changed very slightly."

The seventh Harry Potter book is expected to hit store shelves in 2007.

The next Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, arrives next year as well. It's the fifth film adaptation of the book series.
